Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers are one of the key pieces of equipment in fire safety. There are five main kinds of extinguishers; Water, Foam, Dry Powder, Co2 and Wet Chemical. Each kind has its own way of dealing with different kinds of fires. It is important to know the strengths and limitations of each.
Water
Suitable for wood, paper and textile fires, water extinguishers are a popular choice, low-cost and easy to maintain.
Co2 Carbon Dioxide
A great choice for areas where electrical appliances are present, Co2 extinguishers are very efficient with most types of fire.
Foam (AFFF)
Being water-based, Foam extinguishers are not suitable for electrical fires but are very efficient on fuel fires.
Dry Powder
These are very effective at fighting A, B and C type fires and come in a variety of sizes.
